To complete your Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision you’ll need to work alongside our tutor who’ll help you build a portfolio of evidence to prove your competence to operate as a Construction Site Supervisor. This may involve things such as providing Design Drawings, RAMS or Toolbox Talks. You’ll have discussions with your Tutor to extract your knowledge not easily put down on paper or uploaded to a computer. Our Tutor will also come visit you to see you working in a live environment.
The Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision is a great qualification to have and is comparable in academic level to A Levels. It’s a significant piece of work, but with the support of our experienced tutors and the City & Guilds Learner Assist software (and mobile App), it makes the qualification easily obtainable for almost all aspiring or current supervisors.
All NVQs are made up of a number of ‘building blocks’ called units. In academic terms, you need a certain amount of these units to build your NVQ. Some examples are provided below.
The increased level (i.e. Level 3) of the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision basically means that for each piece of evidence provided to meet the unit criteria, there needs to be an explanation of why it’s being submitted and the rationale behind it. This is simply an explanatory note of your thinking behind the evidence. Your dedicated tutor will be able to support you all the way through this process.

I need my Gold CSCS Card quickly!
Been working on site and suddenly you need a Gold CSCS Card? Or a long-term job’s finished and all new sites require a Gold CSCS Card?

Once you book on your Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision with us, we can register you with City & Guilds and get you booked on a local Operatives Health, Safety and Environment CSCS Test. Once you have your CSCS Test pass and Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision registration, you can apply for a 2-year Gold CSCS Card, until you’ve completed your NVQ whereby you can get a 5 year Gold CSCS Card.
What about my SSSTS or SMSTS?
There is some confusion within the industry about SSSTS and SMSTS and their role with CSCS Cards. Unfortunately, successfully completing your SSSTS doesn’t qualify you for a Gold CSCS Card. You need the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision.
However, not all is lost. Your SSSTS and SMSTS can be used toward your NVQ. At the outset of the NVQ, your tutor will undertake a Skills Scan to ascertain your current level of competence and map it against the units that make up the NVQ. All previous qualifications, NEBOSH, IOSH, SSSTS or SMSTS, for example, will count.
What You Learn on your Level 3 NVQ:
Your Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision will cover a number of units that come together to build your full NVQ qualification. Example units may be:

- Monitoring Progress of Work Against Schedules in the Workplace
- Confirming Work Meets Quality Standards in the Workplace
- Implementing Procedures to Support the Team’s Performance in the Workplace
- Co-ordinating and Confirming Dimensional Control Requirements of the Work in the Workplace
- Contributing to the Circulation of Construction Related Project Information in the Workplace
- Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace
As you can see, some of these are very general and multiple types of evidence can be provided to address each of them. You work with our tutor to ascertain what evidence is best suited to your circumstances.
How to Pass your Level 3 NVQ:
This is not a college course where you come to our centre and sit in a classroom. This is a professional, fast track programme where we ascertain your competence via workplace assessment, seeing you in action and undertaking professional discussions to extract your knowledge and experience.
Together with your tutor, you work together to build a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your competence against the NVQ units.
