The ES Interim workplace assessment enables current Sentinel card holders endorsed with the full ES competence to undertake a workplace assessment whilst performing duties of an Engineering Supervisor.
The first step towards maintaining your ES competency is to gain a minimum of 4 work experience logbook entries leading up to the ES workplace assessment. Your ES assessor will contact you at least 24 hours prior to the ES workplace assessment taking place. Please book your ES assessment well in advance of expiry to avoid losing your competence as there is no grace period from Sentinel for workplace assessments.
Your Railway Medical needs to be in date with a current Drug and Alcohol test. If you change Employer/Sponsor you will need to take a new Drug and Alcohol test, contacts us to book an appointment prior to attending your ES workplace assessment or book online.

What You Learn on your ES Workplace Assessment:
The ES Interim workplace assessment consists of theory and practical elements including;
- ES underpinning knowledge
- Establishing a worksite within a possession
- Safety-Critical Communications
- Engineering Train movements/OTP
- ES Safety Briefing
On successful completion of the ES Interim workplace assessment, you are free to perform the duties of an Engineering Supervisor anywhere on the Network Rail Managed Infrastructure including Infrastructure Projects.
How to Pass your ES Workplace Assessment:
Throughout the ES Interim workplace assessment there are a series of verbal and practical assessments, we can provide additional learning support if required. We recommend you study the ES Key Point card leading up to your ES Interim workplace assessment. The pass rate at the centre for the ES workplace assessments is 95%.
On successful completion of your 9-15 month interim ES assessment You will need to complete a minimum of 4 work experience log book entries and attend an ES Recertification Course leading up to the 2-year expiry date.
Your Assessor will contact you to confirm all arrangements prior to the ES assessment.
