The Personal Track Safety (PTS) Refresher course enables workers to access the Railway Infrastructure including AC and DCCR electrified lines. To maintain your competency, preferably renew your PTS leading up to the expiry date. However, you are eligible to complete a PTS Refresher provided your competency has expired by no more than eight weeks. Your Railway Medical needs to be in date with a current Drug and Alcohol test. If you change Employer/Sponsor you will need to take a new Drug and Alcohol test, contact us to book an appointment prior to attending your course or book online.
Provided you meet the requirements above you can attend a course on your chosen date. For pre-course revision we recommend you purchase the PTS handbook or download it free from our site.
In the case of being more than eight weeks from expiry, you will need to attend a 2 day PTS Initial training course.
Duration: 1 Day
What You Learn on your PTS Refresher:
The PTS Refresher course consists of theory and practical elements including:
- Working on or near the line
- Railway terminology
- Signalling systems
- Electrification AC/DCCR
- Emergency procedures
- Safety Critical Communications
On successful completion of the PTS Refresher course, you are free to work anywhere on the Network Rail Managed Infrastructure including Infrastructure Projects.
How to pass your PTS Refresher:
The assessment process for the PTS Refresher course consists of a multiple-choice question test paper with short written answers. The questions are based on your knowledge of PTS AC, PTS DCCR and Safety Critical Communications. We can provide additional learning support if required.
The pass rate at our centres for the PTS Refresher course is 98% and if you don't pass the first time you can attend another course free of charge!
PTS card holders range from all types of construction workers including Trackworkers, Tradespeople, Scaffolders, Engineers and Surveyors. The Railway has an excellent safety record with a focus on training so you can progress and take higher level courses. Many people take a temporary job on the Railway but end up staying within the rail industry for the rest of their career. For the next 10 years, the government has released a huge amount of money to maintain and enhance the rail network. The first phase of the High Speed 2 project has created an additional 16,000 PTS jobs.
