Course Details

The first step towards achieving your SWL 1 qualification is to gain experience and knowledge of working on the Railway, performing the duties of a COSS. The SWL 1 course enables you to convert from a COSS to a Safe Work Leader, you can attend the SWL 1 course on your chosen date when you are ready to progress. Prior to attending the Safe Work Leader course, you will need to complete an online pre-qualifier knowledge check, which generates a certificate you can print and bring on the first day of your Safe Work Leader 1 course.

Your Railway Medical needs to be in date with a current Drug and Alcohol test. If you change Employer/Sponsor you will need to take a new Drug and Alcohol test, contacts us to book an appointment prior to attending your course or book online.

Throughout the SWL 1 course, there are a series of verbal, written and practical assessments. We can provide additional learning support if required. The pass rate at the centre for the SWL 1 course is 98% and if you don't pass the first time you can attend another course free of charge!

The Safe Work Leader qualification lasts for two years, you must hold a valid COSS competency to maintain your SWL 1 status, so make sure you don't forget about your COSS assessment and COSS refresher course. Provided you maintain your COSS competency you will be eligible for a Safe Work Leader 1 Refresher Course, You will need to attend leading up to expiry to continue performing the duties of a Safe Work Leader 1.
